THE WEIGHT OF SUNSHINE: DEBUT NOVEL BY ROBIN MAGUIRE (LITERARY FICTION) PRE-ORDER
Literary Fiction: Novel.
Nina Rhodes is the kind of girl you don’t hook up with along the way because she’s the kind of girl you might want to end up with. Only Jackson doesn’t. And maybe she isn’t that girl.
From senior year in college, we follow their ricochet between coasts, careers, and marriages into adulthood’s messy, glittering sprawl. A kaleidoscope of perspectives, includes first husbands and wives who add their spicy takes: a juicy portrait of ‘what is’. When one impulsive act shifts the axis of their lives, our heroes are officially screwed. Set against the backdrop of affluent California and Manhattan, The Weight of Sunshine explores emotional inheritances—grief, desire and fractured loyalties and how they reverberate across generations. Fresh, spirited, and richly character-driven, this is a story about privilege, pain, reinvention and the one person we can never quite let go.
“The Weight of Sunshine is a luxurious dispatch of legacy and wealth that stretches from the beaches of California to New York City to the vineyards of Napa. Amid 5-star hotels and sips of Macallan 18, Robin Maguire’s characters never stop feeling real and troubled—and no amount of money can resolve their human conditions. This multi-generational story had me invested and moved until the very last page.”
—Dana Calvo, creator of “Good Girls Revolt”
“Robin Maguire has created a world as complicated as it is beautiful. Replete with searing insight into love and its shadow grief, wry humor and views of wine country from northern Cal-ifornia to southern France—I tried to savor her book the way you’re supposed to savor a good vintage but ended up devouring it all in one sitting.”
—Lola Kirke, author of Wild West Village
“Maguire spins a wild, sometimes-frenetic tale anchored by free spirits whom readers won’t easily forget.”
—Kirkus Reviews
“The Weight of Sunshine reveals what it means to love in all of its spectacular and complicated iterations. Robin Maguire creates a world full of humor and harsh realities. Her unique voice pro-vides her characters with situations where ‘love’ shows up in un-expected ways. It’s a story that lingers, stays with you. Reminds you of what it’s like to experience heart connections you won’t ever forget. Her story is a reminder to open our hearts to all the possibilities of love.”
—Joan Tewkesbury, author of Julio Rubalo Opens the Door to His Mouth
“Robin Maguire writes with striking honesty about love, regret, heartbreak and the cost of choices we make along the way. You won’t be able to look away from the gripping and emotionally rich lives of Jax & Nina as we journey through the ups and downs of their relationship and the quiet tension that feels so familiar and true. It’s a beautiful, intimate, human story about who we become and the parts of ourselves we never quite let go.”
—Tina Quinn, author of Invisible Things
“Smart, romantic, funny, immensely satisfying, and deeply moving, Robin Maguire’s The Weight of Sunshine runs on jet fuel. It launches you into a high-octane world that’s both wildly brash and life-affirming. A great getaway of a novel.”
—Lewis Robinson, author of The Islanders
Robin Maguire was born and raised in Los Angeles. She graduated from UCLA and studied painting at Otis College of Art and Design. A foray into on-camera Martha Stewart-esque content brought her to the theater and lifelong side hustle—writing. Maguire’s award-winning play, “Aquarium,” was described by Michael Silverblatt of KCRW’s Bookworm as, “A hand grenade lobbed into the lap of 'post-moral' America.” The allure of the novel (no actors, no rehearsals, fewer tears) eventually won favor. Maguire lives in LA with her husband.
ISBN: 978-1-962931-74-8, EISBN: 978-1-962931-75-5, LCCN: 2026902470. 385 pages, softcover. Forthcoming July 28, 2026.
